Overview

What is Stone Dust?

Stone dust, also called screenings or quarry dust, is the fine material left after crushing and screening stone. It ranges from about 1/8″ down to powder.

It spreads and screeds easily and compacts into a hard, level surface, which is why many installers use it as a setting bed for pavers and flagstone and as a top layer on paths.

FAQ

Stone Dust questions

Quick answers to what customers ask most.

Stone dust or sand under pavers?

Both are used. Stone dust compacts harder; concrete sand drains better. Many paver manufacturers specify sand, so check their guidelines.

How much area does a ton cover?

At 1″ deep, about 240 sq ft per ton.

Does stone dust drain?

Poorly once compacted. Slope paved areas so water runs off the surface.
